2.6.7 Leather Protection

Leather protection protects the vehicles interior leather against permanent stains.  Leather protection forces spills to bead up so they can be wiped away with a sponge or paper towel before the stains are allowed to set.

Most common brands of leather protection usually only provide a temporary surface coating.  These coatings usually go away fairly quickly leaving the leather unprotected.

Professional brands protect leather by penetrating the fiber without changing the color, texture, look, feel or breathing ability of the leather. These professional brands protect, clean and condition the leather. When buying leather protection the buyer should also ensure the leather protection is odor-free, nontoxic, hypoallergenic and biodegradable.

Comment: Leather protection is relatively inexpensive and easy to apply.

Buyer Question:  Where do I buy professional leather protection?

Comment:  Professional grade deep penetrating leather protection can be obtained at some auto parts stores and at Internet sites, such as, Stainguard at www.stainguard.com for $19.99 + $5.00 shipping.

Buyer Question: Should I let the dealership bid on providing leather protection for my vehicle?

Comment: Absolutely … If the dealership offers a better deal, take it and save some additional money. Just be aware this is another over priced option the dealership sells.

The following steps take approximately one hour.

  1. Determine if you want to add leather protection to your vehicle.
  2. Obtain quotes from your local auto parts store and from businesses who sell professional fabric protection over the Internet. e.g. Stainguard at www.stainguard.com.
  3. Include the best prices for fabric protections in your Buyer Information Folder.
